We have a group of Eco Warriors for anyone from Year 1 to Year 6. "It is open to anyone who is interested in helping the planet. So far, we have done an environmental review of the school. We will be doing an action plan soon to determine what we will be working on. We've got some amazing activities planned to help save our planet.." - Raff, Ellie, George and Lily H.
We re-use and recycle materials where possible. We make our own compost from our fruit and vegetable waste, teabag and fruit waste from the staff room and from paper. The compost is used by our Gardening Club and they garden organically. We have also created a bug habitat in our Reception class playground.
Care for the World Event
The whole school took part in an event on Valentine's Day to show their love for the plant. The Care for the World Event was organised by the passionate and dedicated Eco Warrior team. Children (and some parents and grand-parents who came along to support us) produced eye-catching posters and banners and paraded them through the town to share ideas about caring for the planet. On arrival at the local library, the children gave and enthusiastic rendition of Earth - we're in it together (ably assisted by Mr Morgan on his guitar!), a song they had learnt specially for the event. This was followed by some chants led by our Eco Warriors on the theme of caring for the Earth. This event was linked to our learning in Science, RE and British Values. "It was a good thing to do to show that we care for the world and to make other people aware that we should care for the plant", said Eco Warrior, Evie. Lily added, "It was great fun too!"
