WALT create food chains

Today, we are looking at food chains and how to create them. To do this we need to remind ourselves about producers and consumers.  Remember that producers are able to use sunlight to make their own food whilst consumers need to eat to get their energy.  Food chains always start with a producer.  The other thing that's really important to remember is that the arrows in a food chain show the flow of energy, not who eats who.  So the arrow will go from the producer to whoever eats it.

Here is an example:

grass---->rabbit----->fox

Below is a link to a lesson on food chains.  There is also a PowerPoint that has been set as a 2do on Purple Mash.  The activity sheet is below and you can make more food chains for different habitats such as a marine habitat or Arctic habitat.  There is also a food chains quiz to have a go at on Purple Mash but make sure you do this at the end of the lesson.
