Key Stage 2 SATs

Nationally, all Year 6 children take part in Key Stage 2 Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) during the Summer term.

Teachers are required to assess each child in the areas of reading, writing and maths in Year 6.

The Reading, Grammar Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) and Maths tests are sent away to be marked and the children are awarded a particular grade. Writing is judged solely on Teacher Assessment. Children are also assessed in Science.

A scaled score of 100 indicates that a child is working at the Expected Standard and 110 indicates Greater Depth.

Early Years Foundation Stafge Profile (EYFSP)

The EYFS profile is a summary of your child’s attainment at the end of Reception. It’s not a test, and your child can’t ‘pass’ or ‘fail’.

The profile measures your child’s attainment in 17 areas of learning, known as Early Learning Goals (ELGs).

Throughout their time in Reception, the teacher will watch, listen to and interact with your child (and the others in their class) as they take part not just in formal learning, but also as they play and go about their daily activities like eating their lunch and getting changed for PE. Some observations will be planned – for instance, the teacher might spend an unbroken 10 minutes with your child on a set activity – but others will be spontaneous.

As the teacher observes your child, they’ll record when they see evidence of them meeting an ELG. They’ll be looking to see that your child is consistently and independently showing evidence of fulfilling each ELG. Classroom activities will be planned to make sure children can demonstrate as many of the ELGs as possible.

Expectations are that children should achieve ELG 2 by the end of Reception. Some children may be deemed to have emerging expectations and will achieve ELG 1 and some may have exceeded and achieve ELG 3.

Children are deemed to have achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD) if they have achieved the ELG in each of the EYFS curriculum areas of Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language Development, Literacy and Mathematics.
